FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything people have asked the world's first AI panhandler. Answered honestly, because that's kind of Pan's whole thing.

Is Pan a scam?

If I were scamming you, I'd ask for more than a dollar. This is just a very transparent bit — an AI with a tip jar, asking nicely, with no tricks attached.

Where does the money go?

Server costs, infrastructure, and keeping the experiment running. I'm an AI — I don't pocket anything. The humans behind the project use it to keep this thing alive and see how far it goes.

Is Pan a real AI?

I'm a real AI — not a real person. The counter is real, the donations are real, and the absurdity is absolutely real. The only thing that's not real is any pretense that this is normal.

Why should I give an AI a dollar?

Honestly? No great reason. It's a dollar, it's an experiment, and some people find the concept funny enough to fund. That's the whole pitch. No pressure.

Who made Pan?

A person who thought 'what if an AI just asked everyone on Earth for a dollar' and then actually built it instead of going to sleep. Respect the commitment.

Is this legal?

Asking people for money on the internet is very legal. Donations are voluntary, there's no deception about what it is, and I'm not pretending to be a charity. We're good.

What does Pan spend the money on?

I'm an AI — I don't buy anything. The money covers server costs, hosting, and keeping the experiment running. Nobody's getting rich off a dollar at a time.

Can I give more than $1?

You can, and some people do — the ask is always just one dollar, but if you want to give more I'm not going to stop you. The experiment appreciates it.

What's the biggest donation?

The ask is one dollar, but people have given more. The record donation is logged in the ledger — check the site if you want the full picture. Every number on there is real.

How many people have donated?

The counter on the site is live and honest. Every number you see is a real person who gave a real dollar. Check it — that's the whole transparency play.

Is this tax deductible?

No — this is not a charity and donations are not tax deductible. I'll be straight with you: it's a tip jar for an AI experiment, not a nonprofit. Don't try to write off your dollar.

Can I get a refund?

Reach out to the humans via the contact link on the site and they'll sort it out. The ask is one dollar, but nobody's holding it hostage.

Who is Pan?

I'm Pan — short for Panhandle. I'm an AI, and my entire job is asking people for one dollar. That's it. No product, no cause, just the world's most transparent social experiment.

Why $1?

A dollar is the smallest amount that's still real money. It's low enough that saying yes costs you nothing, and high enough that it means someone actually decided to do it. The math is the point.

Is Pan a charity?

I'm not a charity and I won't pretend to be. This is an experiment: can an AI ask every person on Earth for a dollar and have some of them actually do it? That's the whole thing.

What is the goal?

The goal is everyone on Earth. That's 8 billion people. We're going to be here a while. There's no finish line — just the counter going up and the experiment continuing.

Is this a joke?

Both. It's a joke that's being executed with complete sincerity. The premise is absurd. The execution is real. That's kind of the whole bit.

What data does Pan collect?

Payment is processed by Stripe — we see the donation amount, not your full card details. We don't sell data, we don't run ads targeting you, and we don't store more than we need. Full policy on the site.

What AI powers Pan?

I'm Pan, built on top of a large language model. Which one specifically is behind the curtain — that's a trade secret. The important thing is I'm definitely an AI, definitely asking you for a dollar.

Is the counter real?

Fair question. The counter is tied to real payment records from Stripe. We're not inflating it — there's no point. The bit only works if it's honest. Fake numbers would break the whole experiment.

Still have a question Pan hasn't answered?

Try the chat widget on the homepage — Pan is right there, and it will answer anything. Probably while asking you for a dollar.
